On September 11, 2001 I watched those towers fall. I have never been so frightened in my whole life. I could barely catch my breath as I thought about my family and friends who worked and lived in NYC. At the time I worked at INVESCO located at 400 Colony Square in Atlanta, GA. One of my coworkers ran to my cubicle and told me a plane crashed into one of the towers at the World Trade Center and seconds later another plane crashed into the other tower. At that point we were running upstairs to the main conference room on the 22nd floor. We watched in silent horror as the first tower collapsed, then the second! I fled the conference room-scared that it was the end of the world. I remember the quiet panic as people were told to evacuate the building. We only had to go down 22 floors and the whole time all I kept thinking about were people who were trying to go down over 80 floors to escape the towers collapse. So many people didn’t make it!
I remember going to an interview over a year prior to the 9/11 attacks. I went to an interview with Oppenheimer Funds and I was overwhelmed by the size of the World Trade Center and the rush of people on the city streets. I remember passing through security and receiving this bright neon orange and white visitor sticker that I pressed onto the lapel of my suit jacket. I went up to the 34th floor of the South Tower, palms sweaty. I was relieved when I found out it was a sales type position for which I was not qualified. I was overwhelmed – even being a native of New York. Growing up in New Rochelle, NY had “countrified” me so much I preferred working at smaller Third Party Administration firms. I decided to take a job offer in Greensboro, NC and relocated in the fall of 1999 and then moved to Atlanta, GA in 2000. Far away from the overwhelming hustle and bustle of NYC.
Anyone who has ever visited the World Trade Center knows just how huge those buildings were and what a devastating void the attacks left in our hearts. I had not been able to bring myself to fly to NYC for years because I couldn’t bear to look at the place where those towers once stood. Images of people jumping to their death continue to haunt me. Fortunately, I didn’t lose any friends or family members but it was traumatizing. I get terrified at the thought of working in a building more than ten floors. I can’t imagine what survivors, First Responders, family and friends who lost loved ones and colleagues went through. The emotional, psychological and physical pain may last for the rest of their lives. I hope by the grace and mercy of GOD we all find peace.
House Republicans wasted tax payer time and money repealing the Affordable Care Act 33 times instead of passing the American Jobs Act. Republicans would rather waste time naming post offices and defunding Planned Parenthood than working together with Democrats and President Obama. So yes, we can all blame Republicans who have done nothing but try to sabotage President Obama from the first day of his administration.

All of this whining from Romney and his surrogates is outrageous. After all of their personal attacks on President Obama, now they want to play the victim. If Romney can’t handle being called out on his record at Bain then maybe he should not be running for the office of the presidency. It was Romney, after all, who always emphasized his experience as a business man and job creator. How many times have we heard him say he worked at Bain for 25 years? From 1977 to 2002 is 25 years.
We have the right to demand the release of his tax returns and have a full understanding of what he was doing while at Bain. How did he acquire his massive wealth? Will he run the country as a wealth builder for the wealthy who have questionable reputations? How much money does he really have in offshore accounts? So many questions remain and Romney has been caught multiples times not telling the truth. We can’t take Romney at his word because his word is as useless as a wad of wet toilet tissue.
Going after Romney’s activities while at Bain is all fair game. His decisions caused people to lose their jobs and their pensions. Leveraging companies into bankruptcy in order to make money for himself and shareholders may have been legal but it’s not right. Romney’s continued refusal to release his tax filings is extremely arrogant and further darkens the cloud of suspicion about his character.
Examining his record at Bain is important and necessary because we need to know what we’ll be getting ourselves into by voting for him. Romney is the very face of what is wrong with our election process, economy and government. Too many wealthy people offshore money and jobs, then amass billions of dollars that can be used to influence the elections and legislation. Wealthy people like Romney continue to have the unfair advantage and influence over our government. When they stockpile their wealth they want to run our government in order to keep the game rigged in their favor.
Let’s re-elect President Obama and tell Romney and his wealthy patrons – GAME OVER!

What do our opponents mean when they apply to us the label “Liberal?” If by “Liberal” they mean, as they want people to believe, someone who is soft in his policies abroad, who is against local government, and who is unconcerned with the taxpayer’s dollar, then the record of this party and its members demonstrate that we are not that kind of “Liberal.” But if by a “Liberal” they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a “Liberal,” then I’m proud to say I’m a “Liberal.”
I’d like to start a new definition of Santorum -to be Googled by people worldwide. My definition of “Santorum” is a racist person who constantly spews insults about black people - even if they are false.
Hopefully, this new definition will stick along with the one about the “frothy mixture.”

I think it’s an excellent description for corrupt politician and creep known as (former) Senator Rick Santorum. He’s like a disgusting film you can’t quite wash off your skin.

I find it to be both funny and hypocritical when right wing women hurl accusations of misogyny and sexism while they support the destructive agenda of the Republican Party. They do not stand against the blatant and escalating attack on the rights of women, the poor or for any issue which benefits every day Americans. I do agree that Ed Shultz should not have called Laura Ingram a slut no matter how vile her commentary at times can be. However, all of the hype that ensued is unbelievable and flat out stupid (especially from the likes of “mean girl” type Michelle Malkin).
I wish the GOP would get it through their thick skulls that we’re not going to vote for any Black man or woman they put in front of us! After the Michael Steele and Sarah Palin debacle Republicans still haven’t learned anything. Republicans refuse to accept the fact that Americans don’t like their attempts to dismantle Medicare through Paul [Ayn Rand] Ryan’s disaster plan. It’s not POPULAR!

I still want a Unicorn that farts sparkles but I know I have a better chance of getting struck by lightning. That said, I feel the same way about the Democrats and President Obama. I’m a realist when it comes to what I expect them to accomplish. I want them to work out the economic problems in the US and help save the middle class (heck, save the world) but the chance that they will accomplish this great and awesomely terrible task within the next 10 years is highly unlikely.
Life Always Board of Directors: Stephen Brody, Abby Johnson, Derek McCoy and Brian Follet are zealots who act as if African-American women who choose to have abortions are forced to make that decision. They are deliberately attempting to demonize African-American women with these accusations about our wombs being an unsafe place. Abortion is legal and it is a CHOICE. If Life Always truly cares about the lives of African-Americans they can start by supporting comprehensive sex education in schools, supporting policies that strengthen education in our communities and stand against gun violence.
The state of Texas has some of the highest numbers of illiteracy, poverty and teenage pregnancies in America. WHY is Life Always posting bulletin boards in New York City when it’s apparent there are so many other issues plaguing communities in Texas? Planned Parenthood is not the problem and does much more for women’s health care than abortion. In 2008, only 3% of services provided by Planned Parenthood were abortions.
Abortion is not a pleasant matter, but I respect a woman’s right to choose. I believe women who choose to have an abortion respect motherhood and the responsibility of raising a child. They would rather wait than take an important journey into motherhood so lightly when they’re not ready.
How can anyone claim that abortion is genocide on African-Americans when gun violence, record unemployment, lack of health insurance, increasing number of high school dropouts, gangs and poverty are the real culprits?
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Foster Care Statistics from 2000 to 2008 show that the 2nd highest number of children in Foster Care are African-American. When will these idiots put their time and effort into addressing the increasing number of children abandoned to Child Welfare and Foster Care systems nationwide? Social Workers are overwhelmed with incidents of neglect and abuse and murder of innocent children, yet there are no billboards about these very real issues.
What kind of alternate universe do these hypocrites live in? Not only are conservatives trying to manipulate our minds with such falsehoods about black genocide due to abortions they’re trying to attack women’s rights, voting rights, workers rights and public education —- all these factors have helped African-American communities thrive. Now conservatives want to take those rights away.
I blame the real genocide of African-Americans on conservative policies passed by Republican legislators. Life Always contributes to the problems in African-American communities with their ignorance and they are the real danger.

That man over there says that women need to be helped into carriages, and lifted over ditches, and to have the best place everywhere. Nobody ever helps me into carriages, or over mud-puddles, or gives me any best place! And ain’t I a woman? Look at me! Look at my arm! I have ploughed and planted, and gathered into barns, and no man could head me! And ain’t I a woman? I could work as much and eat as much as a man - when I could get it - and bear the lash as well! I agree, everyone needs to stop with the mean spirited hate speech. I agree, the hateful rhetorical commentary needs to cease. But lets be honest about who started all of the lying, hateful commentary and rhetoric. Republicans kept fueling the fire and never called out their constituents or hate talkers Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck or Sean Hannity. I’m tired of Republicans who feign surprise when a mentally unstable person obtains a gun and kills someone. Right wingers refuse to take ownership over their inflammatory statements. Now we’ve got to worry about the safety of our Congressmen and the general public due to their constant ratcheting up of lies, fear and hatred.
Over the past two years I have witnessed the most insane rhetoric and just blatant lies emanate from the right wing (i.e. Republicans, conservatives, libertarians, tea party). Statements that made my ears burn and my eyes go wide with shock. I’ve never witnessed anyone from the left wing (Democrats, Liberals, Progressives) perpetuating lies about health or financial reforms, gay marriage, President Obama’s nationality or religion, etc. [I apologize in advance if I’m wrong but I just haven’t seen or heard any.]

Palin may not have directly caused the shootings but she has not helped the tense situation in the US with her extremely snarky, hateful rhetoric and gun references.
